  • The District needs only 21 additional scouts to make “Quality District”.
  • FOS “Friends of Scouting” is coming. Please make sure your Packs are signed up for their presentations
  • Jerry Montag, current Cub Scout Round Table Commissioner for Del-Mi District, announced that he is in looking to cross over to Boy Scout Round Table in February. Anyone interested in filling the Cub Scout Round Table Commissioner position is encouraged to contact Jerry.
  • All of tonight’s attendees have been entered into a drawing that will be held at then end of the meeting. Prizes include a mummy sleeping bag, and two $10 Dick’s Sporting Goods gift cards.

TONIGHT'S TOPIC – Den Gathering Activities

  • Many sources are available for ideas. Those include the program help guides and many web sites. It was mentioned that if you do not have access to a PC that your local library probably does.
  • Several leaders mentioned that they have someone assigned to do this activity. Others stated that they rotate this duty among the Dens. Den Chiefs are an excellent resource to do this activity. This helps them earn credit towards their leadership skill awards.
  • The objective of the Den Gathering Activities is to get the boys settled down and allow time for parents to speak to leaders.
  • Some packs do the flag ceremony first, then do a Gathering Activity. Seems that this works well too.

TONIGHT'S TOPIC - Cub Scout Outdoor Activity Award

  • Round Table Commissioner provided everyone a handout that outlined the objective and requirements of the award.
  • The award can be earned at each level, Tiger through Webelos.
  • The first time it is earned a pocket flap award that is worn over the right shirt pocket is received. Wolf track pins are awarded for each successive year it is earned.
  • A great way to help achieve this award is by setting the goal to earn the “Summer Time Award”.
  • The Summer Time Award is earned by having 3 summer pack activities. Must have 50% participation. Ideas that seemed to be successful included bowling outings, summer picnics, campouts, rocket launches, swimming events, water events, etc.
  • Main thing is to plan. Get the dates on the calendars in the beginning of the year so that families can plan.

TONIGHT'S TOPIC – What activities do you have planned for December?

  • Cake Decorating Contest – seemed to be pretty popular topic. Meets a Bear requirement, is a lot of fun. Should have a theme or themes. Some packs have done auctions but found them to be difficult to manage, as scouts want “their” cake. Some packs have a contest and have the scouts all vote. Ribbons are handed out for top three places. Everyone gets a participation patch.
  • Collect can goods. Great community service project.
  • One pack builds Gingerbread Houses out of Graham Crackers, and then they eat them! Yummy…
  • One pack rings the Salvation Army Bell for a period of two hours.
  • Visiting nursing home and sing Christmas Carols. It was mentioned that you should try to go back and see them in the Spring.
  • After the holidays it is important to schedule an exciting activity. You want to get the boys back in the scouting spirit. These include PineWood Derby, Bowling, and Slide shows at the next meeting showing scouts at camp.
