Grants Available for Youth-Led Green Projects in Carmel / Clay Township Print E-mail

Last fall, three of five approved projects came from BSA groups.  The program still has $6,550 more to distribute to groups that apply by February 28.

The Carmel Green Teen Micro-Grant Program is offering $250, $500, and $1000 grants to fund youth-led volunteer eco-friendly projects in Carmel or Clay Township .  Applications are due February 28, 2010.  All projects must be completed by December 2010.

Sample projects include:

  • Planting trees (to reduce CO2)
  • Purchasing and distributing rain barrels, recycling containers, or compost bins (to discourage the waste of natural resources)
  • Creating organic community or school gardens
  • Hosting roadside and waterways clean-up events
  • Any green youth-driven project, be creative

Projects must be designed and carried out by young people, with adults serving as “guides on the side.”

School, scout, religious and other youth groups are encouraged to apply.  Applications and details are available at http://www.carmelgreenteen.org/.

Application deadline is February 28, 2010.

Grants will be available until monies are exhausted – apply early.
